This  converted F4U-1 is the "one and only" experimental transition trainer version of the Corsair referred to as Vought Design No. 354.  Because of the unique handling characteristics of the Corsair, particularly landing, the Navy envisioned the creation of a two seat trainer. 

 

However, this would prove to be unnecessary with the various fixes with the wing leading edge spoiler and modified landing gear in later variants.
